£1750Blepharoplasty

What is a Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on your face and is likely to be the first facial feature to reveal signs of aging. Wrinkled folds of skin on the upper eyelids, bags under the eyes and sagging eyebrows can make a person look older, tired or sad. Plastic surgery can reshape the eyelid area and improve appearance. A Blepharoplasty is a surgery that removes excess skin and fat on upper and/or lower eyelids. It is commonly done for cosmetic reasons. It may also be done to improve vision if the skin folds interfere with normal vision. What Blepharoplasty does is to create a smoother area around the eyes, giving a more youthful look. A brow lift results in a more alert appearance. Who performs the Blepharoplasty?

Mr Raghavan received higher surgical training at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, Derby Royal Infirmary and Leicester Royal Infirmary. His specialities include sleep disorders / snoring, sinus surgery, rhinology. £225Diagnostic Biopsy

What it is:

A biopsy is a sample of a small amount of tissue or cells that will be examined in a laboratory.

What it's used for:

A biopsy is used to obtain bits of tissue to be checked in the laboratory for signs of cancer or other diseases. The biopsy sample is stained and examined under a microsope in the lab. A biopsy may also be used to identify possible cancer or causes of inflammation and infection.

How it's done:

The area to be biopsied is thoroughly cleaned, and numbed with a local anesthetic. A sterile scalpel is used to cut away a small piece of tissue, and then the wound is stitched (sutured) closed.

Who performs the Biopsy:

Dr Tim Clayton is fully-trained in adult and paediatric dermatology, which enables him to identify, offer advice on, and treat a wide range of skin ailments. Having worked in several different environments, and with a qualification in Medicine Liverpool University and Dermatological Higher Professional Training gained at Leeds General Infirmary, Dr Tim Clayton is one of the UK's most experienced and diversely-qualified dermatologists. To book an appointment with our consultant dermatologist, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

£650Colonoscopy

What is colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to see inside the colon and rectum. Colonoscopy can detect inflamed tissue, ulcers, and abnormal growths. The procedure is used to look for early signs of colorectal cancer and can help doctors diagnose unexplained changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain, bleeding the anus, and weight loss.

How is colonoscopy performed?

During colonoscopy, patients lie on their left side on an examination table. In most cases, a light sedative, and possibly pain medication, helps keep patients relaxed. Deeper sedation may be required in some cases. The doctor and medical staff monitor vital signs and attempt to make patients as comfortable as possible. The doctor inserts a long, flexible, lighted tube called a colonoscope, or scope, into the anus and slowly guides it through the rectum and into the colon. The scope inflates the large intestine with carbon dioxide gas to give the doctor a better view. A small camera mounted on the scope transmits a video image inside the large intestine to a computer screen, allowing the doctor to carefully examine the intestinal lining. The doctor may ask the patient to move periodically so the scope can be adjusted for better viewing. Once the scope has reached the opening to the small intestine, it is slowly withdrawn and the lining of the large intestine is carefully examined again. Bleeding and puncture of the large intestine are possible but uncommon complications of colonoscopy.

Who performs the Colonoscopy?

This procedure is performed by one of our highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologists in a private hospital environment. To arrange an initial consultation at a cost of £225 contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111 to book an appointment.

£500Sigmoidoscopy

What is a sigmoidoscopy used for?

Sigmoidoscopy can be used to investigate the cause of bleeding or pain from the back passage. Your doctor may also suggest this test if you have various other bowel-related symptoms. The test can also look for evidence of cancer or inflammation of the rectum and lower colon. Sigmoidoscopy can also be used to remove polyps (small fleshy growths that can be found in the colon) and take samples of tissue (biopsy) for analysis. This is done by passing a thin grabbing instrument down a side channel of the sigmoidoscope.

Who performs this procedure?

This procedure is performed by one of our highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologists. To arrange an initial Consultation at a cost of £225 call us at Tel: 0161 832 2111

£500Gastroscopy

What is gastroscopy?

Gastroscopy is an examination of the inside of the gullet, stomach and duodenum. It is performed by using a thin, flexible fibre-optic instrument that is passed through the mouth and allows the doctor to see whether there is any damage to the lining of the oesophagus (gullet) or stomach, and whether there are any ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.

Who performs the Gastroscopy?

This procedure is performed by one of our highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologists. To arrange an initial Consultation at a cost of £225 call us at Tel: 0161 832 2111"

£450Virtual Colonoscopy

For many years the only way of looking at the colon (large bowel) was to undergo a surgical procedure known as a colonoscopy. With the advances in CT scanning technology it has now become possible to gain all the images previously achieved from a colonoscopy but without the need for sedation or the use of an optical surgical scope (camera). The virtual colonoscopy captures hundreds of exceptionally detailed images from outside the body. The images build up a complete picture of the colon, which enables the Consultant Radiologist to undertake a ‘fly through’ of the entire colon allowing for visualisation of any small polyps or changes in the bowel such as diverticular disease. The other key advantage of the virtual colonoscopy is the ability to gain images of the other abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, gallbladder and spleen. In recent studies it is this additional information, which has proved successful in the detection of other diseases and abnormalities, in particular kidney cancer.

£250Tilt table test

What is a tilt table test and what is it used for?

A tilt table test, occasionally called upright tilt testing is a medical procedure often used to diagnose dysautonomia or syncope. Patients with symptoms of dizziness or lightheadedness, with or without a loss of consciousness (fainting), suspected to be associated with a drop in blood pressure or positional tachycardia are good candidates for this test. Contact one of our team members on Tel: 0161 832 2111 to arrange an appointment.

£430Exercise Tolerance Test

Exercise tolerance testing (also known as exercise testing or exercise stress testing) is used routinely in evaluating patients who present with chest pain, in patients who have chest pain on exertion, and in patients with known ischaemic heart disease. At Pall Mall Medical we offer rapid access to have the test performed by a qualified clinician at a private hospital. Contact one of our team members on Tel: 0161 832 2111 to arrange an appointment.

£320ECHO

An echocardiogram (also known as an echo) uses sound waves that echo against structures in the heart to build up a detailed picture of the heart. This test looks at the structure of your heart and how well your heart functions. It is a similar sort of scan to the ultrasound used in pregnancy. The echocardiogram can give accurate information about the pumping action of the heart, and about the structure of the heart and the valves. It can be a useful test if you have recently had a heart attack or if you have heart failure. It is also used routinely to assess people with heart valve problems or congenital heart disease. This procedure is performed by a Cardiologist within a hospital environment. To arrange an appointment contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111

£430Dopler Scan

A Doppler ultrasound test uses reflected sound waves to see how blood flows through a blood vessel. It helps doctors evaluate blood flow through major arteries and veins, such as those of the arms, legs, and neck. It can show blocked or reduced blood flow through narrowing in the major arteries of the neck that could cause a stroke. It also can reveal blood clots in leg veins (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) that could break loose and block blood flow to the lungs (pulmonary embolism). See pictures of a stroke and an embolus. During pregnancy, Doppler ultrasound may be used to look at blood flow in an unborn baby (fetus) to check the health of the fetus. During Doppler ultrasound, a handheld instrument (transducer) is passed lightly over the skin above a blood vessel. The transducer sends and receives sound waves that are amplified through a microphone. The sound waves bounce off solid objects, including blood cells. The movement of blood cells causes a change in pitch of the reflected sound waves (called the Doppler effect). If there is no blood flow, the pitch does not change. Information from the reflected sound waves can be processed by a computer to provide graphs or pictures that represent the flow of blood through the blood vessels. These graphs or pictures can be saved for future review or evaluation. To arrange an appointment or for further information contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111

£420Bariam Swallow Meal

Barium tests are used to help visualise parts of the gut (gastrointestinal tract) such as the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and small intestines (upper gut). The stomach, like other parts of the gut, does not show up well on ordinary X-rays, for example, to allow a radiologist to diagnose small ulcers. However, if the lining of the stomach is coated with barium, a white liquid that shows up on X-rays, and if the stomach is also distended by extra gas, which shows up black, then much greater detail is obtained. This is called a barium meal. If the gullet, or oesophagus, is examined at the same time, which it often is, then the examination is called a barium swallow and meal. If the examination is extended to look at the small bowel, then it is known as barium meal and follow through. To arrange an appointment or for further information contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111

£1,750Nasal Debrider Operation

£2,910Angiogram

An angiogram allows your doctor to look inside your coronary arteries and find out where and how severe any narrowed areas are. It's also known as a coronary angiogram or a cardiac catheterisation. The procedure helps your doctor decide what treatment you might need. It can also give information about how effectively your heart is pumping and about the blood pressure inside your heart. An angiogram can also be helpful for investigating other conditions, such as congenital heart disease. £725Arthrogram

What is an Arthrogram?

An arthrogram uses x-rays and a special dye to make pictures of your joints. The dye is injected into your joint. After the dye is injected, pictures are taken using an x-ray machine. The pictures may also be taken using a CT (Computerised Tomography) scanner or an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner. This is called a CT arthrogram or a MRI arthrogram.

Benefits of Arthrograms :

Used for diagnosis to show detail of joints in your knees, hips, shoulders, wrists and ankles. This allows the clinician to see the structure in and around the joints, including cartilage, ligaments, tendons and muscles. £800Patch Testing

What is patch testing?

Patch testing can help your doctor find out whether your skin condition is caused by an allergy to substances which come into contact with your skin, such as products at home, at work or in leisure activities. You can then be advised of the names of any identified allergens in order to help you to avoid them.

To what will I be tested?

You will be tested to around 40 standard substances which are frequently in contact with the skin, e.g. rubber, preservatives, metals, perfumes and plants, and also additional substances that are suspected triggers for your skin problem. You may be tested to some of your own work or home products, such as personal toiletries.

What does patch testing involve?

Three visits to hospital are required. On the first visit a dermatologist or specialist nurse will decide which tests are needed. The substances to be tested will be applied to your back in special small containers contained within a tape. The containers are identified by marking your back with ink. Occasionally the arms or the thighs are also used. Itching of the sites is normal. Allow up to 2 hours for this first visit. The substances remain taped in place until your next visit, when the patches containing them are removed and any reactions noted. In some departments patients are asked to remove the patches an hour before the appointment. Additional patches may be added, as indicated by the initial patch test readings. Marking ink or tape will remain on your back and may be reinforced, to ensure it will persist for a further two days On the third visit, your back will be examined and any further reactions discussed with you. To arrange an appointment or for further information contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111

£600Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure where the lining of the cervix (the neck of the womb) is closely examined. It is carried out by our Consultant Gynaecologist who uses a magnifying instrument called a colposcope to check the cells that line the cervix for abnormalities.

A colposcopy is carried out when the results of a cervical screening test indicate that there are abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. After closer examination of the cervical cells, the colposcopist will be able to determine the extent of any cell abnormalities and whether any treatment is required. If the colposcopy confirms that there are cervical cell abnormalities, a biopsy may be carried out. This involves removing a small sample of tissue for closer examination and testing.

The treatment of abnormal cervical cells is almost always successful. Following treatment, it is unlikely that any cell changes will occur in the future. To arrange an appointment or for further information contact Pall Mall Medical on Tel: 0161 832 2111

£2,250MACS Face Lift

What is it?

The MACS facelift (or Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) is a surgical procedure to improve a sagging mid and lower face. This mini facelift technique was devised in Belgium and is suitable for people from 40 to 55. It is a short scar technique and does not involve a long scar behind the ear. It can restore a youthful-looking jaw line, reduce jowls, and bring back the ""apple"" of the cheek that tends to sag with ageing. It is often used in men to reduce visible scarring. It produces a fresh natural rather, than stretched, appearance.

What is involved?

Your surgeon will make incisions in your temples and in the natural crease in front of your ears. The fibrous tissues under the skin are tightened with permanent stitches fixed close to your cheek bones or the connective tissue under the skin. These stitches pass down to your neck, jowls and cheek fat pads. You are likely to have liposuction under your chin at the same time. This removes fatty tissue from your neck and ""frees up"" more excess skin for re-draping. If your neck is particularly saggy, your surgeon may need to make incisions behind your ears as well as to correct this. It is possible for you to have eyelid surgery at the same time. The whole operation takes about 3 hours to complete and is performed under a general anaesthetic. You will probably stay in hospital for two days afterwards.

Your recovery

Mini facelift procedures are typically less invasive than a traditional facelift: because of this you can expect a shorter recovery time from your MACS facelift. The MACS mini facelift is a less invasive procedure than a traditional facelift and because of this can have a shorter recovery time. Bandages: for the first night after your operation you’ll wear a firm bulky bandage. You will have to have small non-suction drainage tubes inserted behind your ears. The bandage will be removed the following day along with the drains. Following this, you will need to wear a light, elasticated ""chin-up"" bandage for one week. You will also need to wear this bandage for a further five weeks in the evening. Stitches from your eyelids will be removed around five days after your operation. Removed between 7-10 days, the remaining hairline stitches are dissolvable and will disappear after hair washing.

Your results

On average you can expect to look around eight to ten years younger when you have fully recovered from your MACS mini facelift. The benefits will last around ten years although this will depend on the elasticity of your skin and your lifestyle. Factors including diet, body weight and exposure to sunlight will affect your overall results and of course your skin will continue to age in the normal way. £460HSG XRay

Hysterosalpingogram

A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them. It often is done for women who are having a hard time becoming pregnant (infertile). During a hysterosalpingogram, a dye (contrast material) is put through a thin tube that is put through the vagina and into the uterus. Because the uterus and the fallopian tubes are hooked together, the dye will flow into the fallopian tubes. Pictures are taken using a steady beam of X-ray (fluoroscopy) as the dye passes through the uterus and fallopian tubes. The pictures can show problems such as an injury or abnormal structure of the uterus or fallopian tubes, or a blockage that would prevent an egg moving through a fallopian tube to the uterus. A blockage also could prevent sperm from moving into a fallopian tube and joining (fertilizing) an egg. A hysterosalpingogram also may find problems on the inside of the uterus that prevent a fertilized egg from attaching (implanting) to the uterine wall.

Why It Is Done

A hysterosalpingogram is done to:

Find a blocked fallopian tube. The test often is done for a woman who is having a hard time becoming pregnant. An infection may cause severe scarring of the fallopian tubes and block the tubes, preventing pregnancy. Occasionally the dye used during a hysterosalpingogram will push through and open a blocked tube. Find problems in the uterus, such as an abnormal shape or structure, an injury, polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or a foreign object in the uterus. These types of problems may cause painful menstrual periods or repeated miscarriages. See whether surgery to reverse a tubal ligation has been successful.
