Could you have post pandemic stress disorder?

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has affected the population in many ways.

However, something that is not yet talked about enough is post pandemic stress disorder (PPSD). Created by Psychotherapist Owen O’Kane, PPSD is used to describe the mental impact of living through the pandemic.

Post pandemic stress disorder has many similar symptoms to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) some of which include:

  1. Heightened anxiety
  2. Feelings of hopelessness
  3. Lack of motivation
  4. Disrupted sleep
  5. Feeling out of control
  6. Change in appetite

The Covid-19 pandemic, which started in March 2020, has been a challenging experience for everyone. According to the World Health Organisation, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused mass trauma and the mental health toll of the pandemic will last for many years to come.

If you have existing mental health issues, or have suffered with anxiety or depression, you are more at risk of suffering with PPSD.
