Cosmetic surgeons report a 167 percent rise in consultations for eye lift surgery since the government made face coverings and masks became mandatory in public spaces.
We collected this data during the six weeks since the rules on masks were introduced.
Mr Ullas Raghavan, our Consultant ENT Surgeon at Pall Mall Cosmetics, said: “The wearing of masks on public transport and in spaces such as shops mean that our eyes are often the only element of our face on display – and sadly our eyes tend to age more rapidly than the rest of our features.
“This is because the thin skin around our sockets slackens and begins to sag, leaving us with eye bags or hooded eyes that can make us look older than our years once we don our PPE.
“It seems to be no coincidence that this sharp increase in consultations for eye lid surgery – technically known as a Blepharoplasty – mirrors the dates these rules came into place and increased the attention our eyes receive from those around us.
It’s worth noting that eye lid surgery isn’t always undertaken as a purely anti-ageing procedure; for many people, sagging skin around the eyes can affect eyesight or even change the shape of our eyes, and many of these consultations may also be for better quality sight.”
A Blepharoplasty can be carried out under local or general anaesthetic on the lower and upper eyelids, as well as on eye bags. The results of the surgery, which costs from £2,795, will be instantly apparent after the operation and patients should have an immediately fresher, more youthful appearance with minimal scarring. Any visual swelling should go down after a month and patients will see the final result of the procedure within 2-3 months.
At Pall Mall Cosmetics, we are a doctor owned and led private healthcare and cosmetic surgery provider, with a hospital and two clinics in the North West. For further information on a Blepharoplasty with us, please click here.
