What can a consultant vascular surgeon help with?

Vascular surgery is a specialty involving the diagnosis, management and treatment of cardiovascular problems from modifying a patient’s risk factors to providing treatments, which can range from minimally invasive procedures (angioplasty and stents) to open conventional surgical operations.

Conditions treated by our surgeons include:

Varicose veins

These enlarged veins can be painful as symptoms include aching, swollen legs and feet and itchy dry skin, varicose veins can also cause people to feel self-conscious. Treatment includes surgery to remove the veins or non-surgical treatments such as endothermal ablation which uses heat treatment to close the vein.

Thread veins (sclerotherapy)

This method of treatment for thread veins (also known as spider veins) involves injecting a solution into the vein which damages the vein and causes it to close.

Inadequate blood supply to the leg muscles can cause pain and cramping severe enough to cause some sufferers to have trouble walking. Claudication is often caused by other medical problems such as peripheral artery disease.

Circulation disorders of the upper or lower limbs

Poor circulation can be caused by a number of issues such as peripheral artery disease, blood clots and Raynaud’s Disease. Our experts will discuss your symptoms with you and diagnose and create a treatment plan for what’s causing your poor circulation.

Sweaty hands

Everyone suffers from sweaty palms on occasion but for some people, the sweat can be excessive to the point that it impacts on their day-to-day life. Pall Mall Medical’s experts can diagnose and offer a plan of treatment to help minimise the effects of sweaty palms.

Facial blushing

Blushing is a natural response to feeling hot or feeling embarrassed but excessive blushing can cause people to feel self-conscious and can result in a fear of blushing which causes more blushing. With the help of our experts, this viscous cycle can be broken with treatment including medication or surgery in severe cases.
