The Guardian recently asked Dr Tim Clayton, our resident Dermatologist, to comment about the developments in research when it comes to rosacea. Here's his response...
"There have been a number of exciting developments in the management of rosacea in the last 12 months. We are now undertsanding more about the condition. We know from experimental studies that rosacea is an inflammatory condition and possibly occurs as a result of complex interactions within the innate immune system".
"There are now new topical treatments to treat the redness seen in roscaea, previously we just had laser. New treatments are also being developed to reduce the inflammation such as very low dose antibiotics and there are new creams that may reduce the demodex colonisation of the skin and thereby switch off the infalmmatory response".
