5 Top Tips for Eye Bag Removal

By Catherine Hall, Pall Mall Medical,

Darkness around the eye can be brought on by a multitude of issues. Below are a few simple and helpful solutions, including home remedies and eyelid surgery, to solve the common problem of eye bag removal:

1.  Cucumbers

A classic and popular way of ridding yourself of those dark circles is a simple sliced cucumber. Many believe it to be a myth after seeing it so commonly in popular culture. However, the cucumber does actually have mild astringent properties, which means it works to lighten the skin.

It is recommend that you cut the cucumber into two thick circles and leave them to chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Once you place them over your eyes they only need to be left there for about 10 minutes for the nutrients to take effect. Ideally this procedure should be done twice a day for around a week or so.

2.  Creams

The pharmaceutical market has a great deal on offer when it comes to creams that can cure darkness and eye bag removal. It’s important to remember that a good amount of research is needed to make sure the cream you’ve chosen is right for you.

3.  Almond Oil

People often fail to recognise the natural benefits that almond oil could have for their skin. It's recommended that you apply the almond oil below the eye and massage it just before going to bed. For the best results wash it with cold water when waking up. This will not only offer a refreshing start to your day but may also get rid of any darkness around the eye. This procedure should be carried out daily until the dark circles have disappeared.

4.  Tea-Bags

Many say that tea can cure most things – they're probably not wrong when it comes to dark eyes! Begin by placing two tea bags in boiling water, ensuring that they are soaked through thoroughly. Then remove them and allow them to cool on a plate. Once cooled, place a bag over each eye, leave them there for a few minutes with your eyes closed. After a couple of minutes remove the tea bags and rinse your eyes, the tanning in the tea is said to help ease the darkness around the eye.

5.  Blepharoplasty (“eyelid surgery”) Procedure

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that is used generally smoothen the area around the eye. The procedure is more commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, the procedure aims to remove excess skin from around the eye, along with wasted fat and muscle around both the lower and upper eyelids.

At Pall Mall Medical we recognise that due to the eyelid area having the thinnest skin on the body, it is commonly the first area to display signs of aging. The procedure itself is generally not offered by the NHS, only in cases when the skin impedes visibility. Even so, we at Pall Mall Medical recognise this procedure to be an effective and long-lasting solution to the problem of dark eyes this is why Pall Mall Medical's initial Blepharoplasty consultation is free of charge and has no obligations.
