In Britain, on average we spend anywhere between £50 and £250 to MOT our cars. And as of 2015, there were 25.8 million cars licensed, this means that on average (by a general calculation) we’re spending up to £6,000,000,000 on giving our cars an MOT. But, when was the last time you thought about dedicating a little money to having your body checked, the same as you would your car?
We live in a world where we have the benefit of living for longer than people ever have before, which makes it all the more important to look after your body in the long term, after all you’re living with it for longer.
After all, what’s worse: your car breaking down or your body breaking down?
What is a health screen?
A health screen is a full body health check including family history, age related problems, examination and blood analysis. It includes dedicated time in the comfort of private facilities to speak with a GP regarding any concerns you might have with your health. A series of tests are also conducted to flag any current problems and highlight any possible future problems.
As well as receiving your test results, the doctor will give you comprehensive advice on any health and wellbeing changes to your lifestyle.
What Health Screens are available?
There are a range of health screens available but the two fundamental checks are either health screening for women or men’s health screening. The tests are tailored to each gender so for example you will have a prostate disease test (prostate cancer) as a man and an ovarian cancer test (CA125) as a woman.
Each test is also available individually if you have a specific concern. Take for example our breast cancer risk screening. This looks to highlight the presence of BRAC1 and BRAC2 genes that could lead to developing the cancer in future.
Employee health screens are also available to get a comprehensive overview of current health and possible future problems of employees. These are also available specific to job role such as Taxi and HGV Medicals.
Why have a private health screen?
Private health screens allow you to get a wealth of tests in one visit, all under one roof, giving you access to a wide variety of tests that are not easily available on the National Health Service.
Many serious diseases such as heart disease and cancer can benefit from early detection and treatment. A health screen may highlight something that was unknown, or underlying such as a hereditary condition, that if caught in time, is treatable.
At Pall Mall Medical, all health screens are performed by our highly qualified GPs, allowing you to ask as many questions as you like. You’ll be given a full report after the appointment, which will allow you to understand your health in a bit more detail.
Your health need not be a concern. Opting to have private health screening can help put your mind at ease.
