An LGBTQ+ history month blog celebrating the idea of looking and feeling like your `true self` - from leaving your legs unshaven to adding curves with Pall Mall’s gender affirming surgery
It’s LGBTQ+ history month 2026, and as trans and non-binary people, we have options to celebrate. We can now choose whether we have boobs or pecs; we can decide whether a sharp, masculine jaw belongs on our face, or if soft, feminine features do. We get to choose the little things that aren’t so little to us, like whether we have hair on our bodies or not. In this blog, we celebrate some of the ways you can channel your inner `true you` this LGBTQ+ history month, from leaving your legs unshaven to having the option of adding curves with gender affirming surgery. At Pall Mall Cosmetics, we believe there is no single way to look, feel, or be yourself. You have a right to feel comfortable in your own skin, whatever that means to you. And doesn’t it feel so GOOD?
LGBTQ+ history month: becoming the true you, from unshaven legs to gender affirming surgery
We’ve compiled a short (but not complete) list of ways you can channel your inner true you. Have you got any ideas yourself? Send us a DM on socials, we’d love to have a conversation about LGBTQ+ inclusion, equality, and everything in between!
You CAN have hair on your body
From furry legs to hairy pits - we’re here to say you can have hair on your body and feel great, no matter what gender(s) you are. Remember when Julia Roberts appeared at the 1999 premiere of Notting Hill with unshaven armpits? Or when Miley Cyrus proudly did the same? These moments mattered because they challenge narrow beauty expectations, and you can challenge them, too. Fact: there’s no medical reason to remove hair from your body. It’s an entirely personal, cultural, and aesthetic choice. (If you prefer smooth, hair-free body parts, that’s fine too).
You CAN contour without it defining your whole identity
Face contouring can give you a look that better aligns with your true gender - whether you want strong, masculine features, gentle, feminine ones - or a blend of both. Makeup has long belonged to every gender, so don’t be afraid to embrace it and let your colours shine! (Top tip: you can use makeup to contour a cleavage before committing to breast surgery. Why not give it a go?).
You CAN find freedom in fashion
We don’t believe in saving body-con dresses for skinny frames, or that flares should only be featured on tall-legged women and all of those who identify. If you like that dress - you get it, regardless of height, weight, breast size, and gender. If you love it, you’re going to rock it. End of story.
You CAN have curves in all the right places
In the media and in society, curves historically belonged to women. But that has long been proven wrong. Regardless of gender, you can choose where curves belong on your body - whether you want to accentuate your boobs, hips, or bottom - it’s up to you! Curves can be created non-surgically, surgically, or simply via your fashion choices.
You CAN pick and choose your body parts, regardless of gender identity
We’ve met lots of people who slay multiple genders. You might like to:
- Keep male facial hair but add a pair of (what you consider to be) perfect boobs?
- Transform your top half with female to male top surgery, but keep your feminine facial features
- Combine masculine and feminine features in a way that feels right to you
Remember that gender is a fluid concept, and that YOUR body can be optimised the way YOU want it, and there’s nobody to tell you no.
