Your Private Health Screening with Pall Mall: What to Expect
A private health check is an excellent way to take control of your health, and here at Pall Mall, we want to make sure that you’re given the utmost level of care from the second you set foot through our clinic doors.
Every health check is different, depending on the type of concerns that are raised, but to give you an idea, here’s what the typical patient can expect.
Whether you are worried about specific symptoms or simply want some peace of mind, Pall Mall is here for you.
Questionnaire
After checking in at the main reception, a member of our friendly staff will ask you to complete a health questionnaire.
What will we ask you?
- Whether you smoke
- How much you drink
- The kind of diet you follow
- Daily activity level
- General fitness
After that, we will need to ask you some questions regarding your medical history. This lets us know what conditions you may already have and also what illnesses you may be predisposed towards.
Consultation and Physical Examination
Once we have all this information, you will get a consultation with one of our friendly and qualified doctors. Everything you discuss with the doctor will be treated in the strictest confidence so if you have any worries you would like to discuss, you can feel safe to do so.
You will then be given a full body examination. This is painless, simple, and carried out with the highest level of professionalism.
Tests Carried Out Using State-of-the-Art Diagnostic Equipment
The doctor will then perform a number of further tests. These will normally vary depending on what kind of private health screening you have opted for. You may be offered a CT scan to examine your blood vessels, for instance. If you’re a female and you’re worried about breast cancer, we may offer you cancer screening options.
Your personalised report
Once this is all completed and we have fully analysed your results, you will get a personalised report showing if and where we have discovered any health concerns.
Follow up appointment
You will then be booked for a remote appointment (a video or phone call, whichever you prefer) with one of our doctors, who will carefully go over our findings and discuss what courses of action are open to you.
Very often, as you are arriving at our clinic as a perfectly healthy individual or someone with only minor ailments, these recommendations will revolve around treatment or lifestyle changes that will prevent any abnormalities from developing into something worse.
If anything truly concerning does reveal itself in your health analysis, we can catch this quickly and treat it fast, ensuring it doesn't go on to cause you any significant problems.
What happens after a health screen?
Based on the findings of these tests, a personal health plan will be developed to ensure you can rectify any issues that have been found. You will likely be offered to come in regularly for health analysis and monitoring tests to keep a close eye on your condition and to see how well preventative treatment is working.
If there still seems to be some problems, your personal health plan may be modified to ensure they are brought under control.
Basically, by having regular private health checks, you are investing in you and your family's future. By preventing illness before it sets in, you are ensuring you can work, enjoy life, and be there for your spouse and children for longer. As such, private health checks are well worth their money.
At Pall Mall, you will have access to some of the best health diagnostics available. You’re welcome to visit us at any one of our luxury private health clinics, any time you wish.

What Can a Private Health Check Help You Catch Early?
A private health check gives you a clearer picture of your current health and helps identify potential risk factors before they become more serious.
Many health conditions can develop without obvious symptoms, particularly in their early stages. Regular health screening can help identify changes in areas such as heart health, blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid function, vitamins and organ health, giving you the opportunity to take action where appropriate.
Whether you're looking for reassurance, have a family history of certain conditions, or simply want to take a more proactive approach to your health, a comprehensive health assessment can provide valuable insight into your overall wellbeing.
Stroke
At Pall Mall, a health screening can help detect early signs of stroke by:
- Providing blood tests to check cholesterol levels
- A 24-hour blood pressure monitor to check your blood pressure isn't too high
- Several heart-related tests to ensure that your heart is functioning correctly
- Tests for C-reactive protein (CRP) as this can be a warning sign for strokes
- Tests for diabetes (this condition can significantly increase your chance of suffering a stroke)
- Performing an MRI scan or ultrasound to look for blood clots.
Many of these same tests also help flag your risk of the less common but more serious hemorrhagic stroke, so a single health screen can help identify risk factors for both types.
Kidney Disease
Kidney disease is an exhausting, chronic condition in its own right. It can cause long-term health issues, such as:
- An increased or decreased need to urinate
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fatigue
- Sleep problems
- Muscle pains
The problem with kidney disease is that the early warning signs are often barely noticeable and the early stages are often silent, so the need for diagnostic testing is more important than ever.
We can perform a simple blood test that will test for kidney function. We may also do other tests and scans to confirm that you are in the clear or to work out a treatment guide.
By finding any abnormalities, we can catch any kidney problems you may have and stop them in their tracks.
Heart Disease
How can a private health check help spot heart disease early?
At Pall Mall, we offer:
- Instant access to 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
- Perform the following to check out how your heart functions in a range of different ways:
- Echocardiogram (ECHO) heart screen
- Stress Echocardiogram (ECHO)
- Electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screen
- Stress Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- A cardiac CT scan to check for your calcium score, showing us what deposits are already in your arteries and how narrow they have become
All these tests can help us see how healthy you are at the moment, and advise you on your next options.
Identifying risk factors early gives you the opportunity to act on them with lifestyle changes or treatment.
Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes is on the increase in the UK. According to Diabetes.org.uk, 3.8 million people are currently diagnosed with the disease.
Individuals managing diabetes may have to avoid certain foods, take certain medicines, or inject insulin. You may also have an increased thirst, feel tired all the time, or find that wounds don't heal as quickly as they used to.
All in all, it is a condition that needs to be carefully balanced to keep it under control and avoid side effects like a diabetic coma.
Type 2 diabetes can also lead to other medical conditions like:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Sleep disorders
- Cancer
- Obesity
- Dyslipidemia
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Hypertension
Pall Mall offers a series of diabetes services, including a professional oral glucose tolerance test. This test will highlight if your body is already showing signs of difficulty when processing sugars.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I need a GP referral to book a health screen?
No. You can book directly with Pall Mall Medical without a referral from your NHS GP. All health screens are led by our own private GPs, so you can get started straight away.
What's the difference between the health screen packages?
- The General Health Screen (£295) covers core checks — blood analysis, blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, thyroid and bone health.
- The General Health Screen + Cancer Test (£349) adds a doctor consultation and a PSA (prostate) or CA125 (ovarian) cancer screening.
- The Ultimate Health Screen (£649) goes further with 58 biomarkers, an HbA1c diabetes test, vitamin and mineral checks, and cardiac and lung cancer risk assessments.
- The Ultimate Health Upgrade (from £795) adds full body MRI scanning on top of the Ultimate Health Screen.
What happens if the screen finds something concerning?
If your results show anything that needs further attention, your GP will discuss this with you directly during your follow-up consultation and recommend appropriate next steps - whether that's further testing, a specialist referral, or a treatment plan.
Anything urgent is flagged and acted on promptly rather than waiting for the scheduled follow-up.
Can I pay using health insurance?
Some private medical insurance policies cover health screening - check your policy directly, or see our guide to using medical insurance. We also offer flexible finance options, including Pay in 3, on selected packages.
How often should I have a health screen?
This depends on your age, family history and risk factors. As a general guide, an annual screen is a sensible baseline for most adults, with more frequent monitoring recommended if you have known risk factors or a family history of conditions like heart disease, diabetes or cancer. Your GP can advise on what's right for you at your consultation.
Is a health screen worth it if I don't have any symptoms?
Yes - many of the conditions we screen for (including heart disease, diabetes and some cancers) develop silently with no early symptoms. A health screen is designed to catch potential issues before they become noticeable, not just to investigate existing symptoms.
Can I book any health screen at any clinic?
Yes, all health screens are available at our Manchester and Liverpool clinics. MRI scanning as part of the Ultimate Health Upgrade is available at our Private Hospital in Newton-le-Willows near Manchester.
