What is CO2 laser skin resurfacing?

If you’ve noticed fine lines, sun damage, scarring or changes in your skin’s texture and tone, you’re not alone. CO2 laser resurfacing offers a targeted way to improve these concerns and reveal smoother, more refined skin.

Our medical-grade Vjuve MD fractional CO2 laser delivers precise columns of energy into the skin, removing damaged surface layers while stimulating collagen production below. By treating targeted areas while leaving surrounding tissue intact, fractional resurfacing supports a controlled treatment and recovery process, with results that can go beyond what topical skincare alone can achieve.

What Skin Concerns Can CO₂ Laser Resurfacing Improve?

The beauty of CO2 laser resurfacing is its versatility. During your consultation, your consultant will examine your skin and confirm which concerns we can help with.

Common indications include:

Ageing & sun damage

•     Fine lines and wrinkles - including around the eyes and mouth

•     Deeper 'smoker's lines' around the lips (perioral lines)

•     Sun-damaged, weathered or leathery skin

•     Uneven skin tone and age-related pigmentation

•     Skin laxity - mild to moderate loose or crepey skin

Scarring & texture

•     Acne scarring - one of the most effective treatments available

•     Surgical and traumatic scars

•     Enlarged pores and rough, uneven skin texture

•     Stretch marks

Skin lesions & growths

•     Moles, skin tags and warts (benign lesions, assessed by your doctor first)

•     Seborrhoeic keratoses (raised 'age spots')

•     Xanthelasma (yellowish deposits around the eyes)

Eye rejuvenation

•     Crow's feet and under-eye wrinkles

•     Crepey eyelid skin - laser eyelid tightening as an alternative or complement to blepharoplasty

Your skin. In expert hands: CO₂ Laser Resurfacing

Your skin. In expert hands

At Pall Mall Medical, your CO2 laser treatment is delivered by a specialist consultant, with every treatment carefully tailored to your skin and individual goals.

CO2 laser resurfacing is a powerful medical-grade treatment that requires experience and precision. Your consultant will assess your skin, plan your treatment and deliver it personally, before guiding you through the aftercare process. This ensures your treatment is considered carefully at every stage, with experienced medical oversight throughout.

  • Doctor-led consultations - honest advice on whether CO2 laser is right for you (and if it isn't, we'll tell you)
  • Medical-grade technology - the Vjuve MD is a medical CO2 laser platform
  • Tailored treatment plans - settings and depth adjusted precisely to your skin and your goals
  • CQC-regulated clinics - the safety and standards of a private hospital-grade environment

How does it work?

The Vjuve MD uses a 10,600-nanometre CO2 laser wavelength, which is absorbed by water in the skin. The laser creates precise microscopic treatment zones, removing targeted areas of damaged skin and stimulating the skin’s natural repair process.

As the skin heals, collagen and elastin production is stimulated, helping to improve its firmness, texture and overall appearance. Results develop gradually as the skin continues to regenerate and collagen remodels over the following months.

Because your treatment is planned by a physician, the depth and intensity can be tailored to your skin and treatment goals - from more superficial resurfacing with less downtime to deeper resurfacing where appropriate.

Your treatment journey

1. Consultation Everything starts with a face-to-face consultation. We'll examine your skin, listen to what's bothering you, and give you a clear, honest recommendation - including realistic expectations, costs and any alternatives worth considering.
2. Treatment day Treatment itself typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on the area. Most people describe a warm, prickling sensation - very manageable, and over before you know it.
3. Recovery Expect your skin to look red and feel warm - a little like sunburn - for the first few days, with some peeling as fresh skin comes through. Most people are back to normal activities within 5–7 days after deeper treatments, sooner after lighter ones. You'll go home with a clear aftercare plan, and your physician remains on hand throughout your healing.
4. Results You'll notice smoother, brighter skin once healing settles - and it keeps getting better. Collagen remodelling continues for months, with results typically maturing around three to six months. For many concerns, a single session delivers a significant improvement; some conditions benefit from a short course, which we'll agree with you up front.

A more complete approach to skin rejuvenation

Great skin rarely comes from a single tool - and this is where a doctor-led clinic really comes into its own. Your consultant can combine your CO2 laser treatment with other procedures for results that are more natural, more complete and longer-lasting:

  • CO2 laser + eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) - surgery removes excess skin, while the laser smooths and tightens the delicate skin around the eyes for a fully refreshed look
  • CO2 laser + anti-wrinkle injections - the laser resurfaces and tightens; injectables soften the muscle activity that creates expression lines
  • CO2 laser + dermal fillers - restore lost volume and improve skin quality in one coordinated plan
  • CO2 laser + facial surgery - refine skin texture alongside facelift or other facial procedures, so the skin matches the lift
  • CO2 laser + medical-grade skincare - consultant-prescribed skincare to prepare your skin, speed healing and protect your results

Your consultation is the place to explore what combination - if any - is right for you. There's never any pressure; just honest, expert advice.

Is CO2 resurfacing right for you?

CO₂ laser resurfacing can be an effective option if you’re looking to improve fine lines, sun damage, scarring, uneven skin tone or texture. The right approach depends on your skin, the concern you want to address and the level of change you’re hoping to achieve.

At your consultation, your consultant will assess your skin, discuss your goals and explain whether CO₂ resurfacing is appropriate for you. They’ll also talk you through the expected results, recovery time and any alternative treatments that may be better suited to your needs.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Our aim is to recommend the treatment that’s right for your skin - even if that means CO₂ resurfacing isn’t the best option.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Does CO2 laser resurfacing hurt?

Patients find it very tolerable - usually described as warmth and prickling rather than pain. Your comfort is monitored throughout by your physician. If necessary there are numbing options we can offer.

How much downtime should I expect?

It depends on the depth of your treatment. Lighter treatments may mean just a weekend of redness; deeper resurfacing typically involves 5–7 days of redness, swelling and peeling. We'll be upfront about what to expect at your consultation so you can plan around it.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients see a significant improvement after a single session - that's the strength of CO2 compared with gentler lasers. Certain concerns, such as deeper acne scarring, may benefit from a course of two to three sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Is it safe for my skin type?

CO2 laser treatment is suitable for most skin types, though extra care and preparation are needed for darker skin tones to minimise the risk of pigmentation changes. This is exactly why physician assessment matters - your doctor will advise honestly on your individual suitability.

How long do results last?

The new collagen your skin produces is yours to keep, and results can last for years. Your skin will continue to age naturally, but good skincare and sun protection - which we'll guide you on - help preserve your results for as long as possible.

What's the difference between this and treatments at a beauty salon?

The Vjuve MD is a medical-grade CO2 laser - significantly more powerful than devices found in non-medical settings, and capable of results they simply can't match.
