What happens during Otoplasty surgery?
Free Ear Correction Consultation
The consultation process involves the surgeon examining your ears and then starting the journey towards correcting them. This will involve a conversation regarding the shape and size you’d like to achieve and to understand why you’d like ear pinning or correction surgery. Your surgeon will also explain the surgery process, what results to expect and any risks that may be involved.
Pre-Operation
The Pre-Op element of your operation involves you coming into our clinic where you will meet your nurse who will conduct a medical health check so that we can assess if you are fit and healthy for surgery.
All patients undergo MRSA checks and some may have to do a blood/urine test.
Crucially for the procedure, we will take photographs of your ears for our medical records. A nurse will then be on hand to answer any questions you might have, as well as providing a point of contact for the intervening time until your operation.
Surgery
On the day of the surgery, you’ll arrive at our private hospital and be warmly welcomed by your nurse. The nurse will then take you to your room where you can prepare and relax before the surgeon arrives.
There will be a discussion about what to expect from the operation as well as a final consent form to be signed and a general check on your health.
During the treatment our expert facial surgeons will make an incision along the crease-line behind your ear and remove any excess cartilage that is causing it to protrude. The ear is then pinned back along the fold to its new position, closer to the head. Patients who choose to have Otoplasty usually have low self esteem and find that their confidence is restored following the procedure.
Post-Surgery
You won’t be required to stay overnight but we do require you to come back to the clinic three times over the next six months so that we can take further photographic evidence of the progress, but most importantly make sure you are happy with the results and have no concerns.
Aftercare
We have a comprehensive post-surgery after care program which will allow you to not only come back to the clinic as often as you like for progress checks on your ear correction surgery and the results. you will also be given a 24 hours , 7 days a week phone line number which will connect you to our team of nurses if you have any concerns Post surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Our expert team are always hand to help, advise and arrange appointments with our specialist consultants.
What is otoplasty and how can it improve the appearance of my ears?
Otoplasty, also known as ear correction surgery, is a procedure designed to reshape or reposition the ears so they sit more naturally against the head. At Pall Mall Medical, the focus is on creating subtle, balanced results that complement your overall facial profile rather than appearing over-corrected.
What concerns can ear correction surgery address?
Otoplasty can help reduce the prominence of ears, correct asymmetry, and refine the shape of the ear cartilage. It is commonly chosen by patients who feel self-conscious about how their ears project or sit.
What happens during my consultation?
Your consultation is a chance to have an open, one-to-one discussion with your surgeon. You’ll talk through your concerns, explore treatment options, and receive tailored advice on what can realistically be achieved, so you can make a fully informed decision.
What can I expect during recovery from otoplasty?
After surgery, your ears will be supported with dressings to protect their new shape. Mild swelling and tenderness are normal in the first few days, with most patients feeling ready to return to normal routines within one to two weeks.
Do I need to wear a headband after surgery?
Yes, a supportive headband is usually recommended, particularly at night, to help maintain the new ear position while healing takes place.
When will I see my final results?
You’ll notice an immediate improvement in the position of your ears, but the final result becomes clearer as swelling settles over the following weeks.
Is otoplasty a safe procedure?
Ear correction surgery is widely regarded as a safe and well-established procedure when performed by an experienced surgeon. At Pall Mall Medical, patient safety and clinical standards are prioritised at every stage of your journey.
Will there be visible scarring after ear correction surgery?
Any incisions are carefully placed behind the ears, meaning scars are typically well concealed and fade significantly over time.
Can ear correction surgery affect my hearing?
No, otoplasty focuses only on the external ear and does not impact your hearing.
