During your free initial consultation, your surgeon will examine your nose and discuss the surgery with you. Our goal at this point is to understand your reasons for undergoing the procedure and the extent of any issues to be resolved. This is also your first chance to ask our team any questions about the surgery or the care you will receive from Pall Mall.
Once you’ve booked your septorhinoplasty surgery, we will invite you to a pre-operative assessment. During this appointment, we will conduct a series of medical checks to make sure you’re fit and healthy. This may include tests for MRSA and some blood and urine tests.
We will also take photographs of your nose so we can keep a record of its appearance before surgery.
Septorhinoplasty surgery is carried out at our own private hospital. We will give you an admission time leading up to the day of the surgery - that’s the time we ask you to arrive at the hospital and not the time of the surgery.
When you arrive, you’ll be shown to your own en suite room to prepare for the surgery. Your surgeon will check in on you to make sure you’re ready for the procedure, and we’ll ask for your final consent to proceed.
You’ll then be taken to theatre for surgery - the procedure will take between 1.5 to 3 hours. You will be sedated with a general anaesthetic.
Following your surgery, you will be taken back to your room to come round from the anaesthetic. Septorhinoplasty is usually a day case, meaning it does not require an overnight stay in the hospital. However, depending on your individual circumstances and the time of your surgery, you may be asked to stay overnight. In that case, the stay in your private room is included in the cost of your surgery, and meals will be provided.
You will need to make travel arrangements to get home following your surgery, as your vision may be temporarily affected due to the swelling and you may still be affected by the anaesthesia.
Following your surgery, we will ask you to visit for two post-op appointments in the first six weeks: once after the first week and then again after six weeks. Our nursing team will check how your recovery is going and answer any questions you have. If you have questions or concerns at any other point after your procedure, you can get in touch with our nurses via a dedicated 24/7 support number.
Like with any cosmetic surgery, septorhinoplasty requires a proper recovery period to ensure you see the best results and avoid any complications. It can take up to six months for the swelling to fully subside and for the end results of the procedure to be visible.
You will need to take one to two weeks off work to recover from the surgery and we also advise you to avoid social situations for the first two weeks to avoid catching a cold or other illness. In the days and weeks following the surgery, you may experience bruising, swelling or numbness: if you have any concerns following the surgery, our team will be on hand 24/7 to answer any questions and provide reassurance about your recovery.

Septorhinoplasty combines septoplasty surgery and rhinoplasty, fixing a deviated septum and also reshaping the nose to change its appearance for medical or aesthetic reasons.

The type of rhinoplasty that’s performed during this procedure will depend on the type and extent of the changes your surgeon will make. Closed septorhinoplasty involves incisions made inside the nose and is suitable when more subtle changes are required. Open rhinoplasty involves external incisions, and while it typically means some external scarring, it allows the surgeon to make more extensive changes.
Bruising and swelling will start to subside 1-2 weeks after your surgery, but it can take six months for all of the swelling to go down and the final results to become visible. Our Patient Co-Ordinators will advise you on how to manage your recovery.
As with any surgery, you may experience some pain and discomfort in the days immediately following the procedure, but it is usually short-lived and manageable. Your surgeon will prescribe appropriate medication. Please ensure you follow the recommended dosage.

Most insurance providers cover septorhinoplasty if the procedure is medically necessary. However, you should always consult your provider beforehand and be aware that they may not cover pre-existing conditions.
While individuals may notice an improvement in their symptoms following septoplasty, including reduced snoring and CPAP comfort, the procedure on its own is not a cure for sleep apnea.
