What is a Pelvis MRI scan?

A Pelvis MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a safe, non-invasive scan that produces high-resolution images of your pelvic organs, tissues, and structures. It is particularly effective for evaluating conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic floor.

Why choose a Pelvis MRI scan?

If you’ve been experiencing persistent pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or other unexplained symptoms, a Pelvis MRI can provide accurate insights to help doctors diagnose the cause and plan the most appropriate treatment.

Signs and symptoms to watch for:

  • Recurring or chronic pelvic pain

  • Heavy, prolonged, or irregular periods

  • Painful periods or pain during intercourse

  • Bloating or abdominal discomfort

  • Unexplained bleeding between periods or after menopause

  • Fertility concerns or suspected conditions affecting fertility

  • Known or suspected fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, or pelvic floor dysfunction

  • Pressure, urinary symptoms, or bowel changes linked to pelvic organ involvement

What conditions can a Pelvis MRI detect and diagnose?

A Pelvis MRI provides detailed imaging that helps doctors detect conditions that may not appear on other scans. Common issues include:

  • Endometriosis – including deep-infiltrating forms affecting surrounding organs

  • Uterine fibroids – abnormal growths that can cause pain or heavy periods

  • Ovarian cysts or masses – benign or malignant growths

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) – and its long-term effects

  • Pelvic floor disorders – including organ prolapse or structural weaknesses

  • Congenital or acquired anomalies – of the uterus, fallopian tubes, or ovaries

With high-resolution images reviewed by our specialist radiologists, a Pelvis MRI can give you clear answers, help guide treatment options, support fertility assessments, and make managing chronic pelvic pain easier.

How long does a Brain MRI scan take?

A brain MRI scan typically takes about 10 minutes, although your full appointment will last around 30 minutes. If a contrast dye is used, you may need to stay a little longer for observation.

You'll be informed how long the scan will take when booking your appointment.

Is an MRI scan painful?

As an MRI scan is a non-invasive procedure, no anaesthesia or pain relief is required. However, if you have claustrophobia or are particularly nervous, you can request some sedation. Please let us know your preference ahead of your procedure date.

Why should I choose a private Brain MRI scan?

Choosing a private MRI scan means faster access to appointments, quick results, and direct support from experienced radiologists. It’s ideal if you need answers sooner for peace of mind or want a second opinion without delays.

When will I get my Brain MRI scan results?

Here at Pall Mall, we aim to process our reports within 14 days. However, sometimes operational processes can delay this. Please do not worry, if there are any delays, we will keep you in the loop. It does not automatically mean something is wrong with your results.

Is a brain MRI scan safe?

Yes, MRI scans are very safe. They do not use radiation, and side effects are extremely rare. If contrast dye is needed, our team will assess your medical history to ensure it’s suitable for you.

Can I get additional areas of the body scanned?

Yes. If you would like to get tests for other areas of the body that aren't included, please mention this to your specialist at one of your consultations.

How should I prepare for my Brain MRI scan?

You can eat and drink as normal unless advised otherwise. You’ll be asked to remove metal objects like jewellery, watches, or hairpins before the scan.

What conditions can a Brain MRI scan detect?

A brain MRI can identify a wide range of issues, including brain tumours, strokes, aneurysms, brain injuries and infections. It’s also used to investigate symptoms such as persistent headaches, seizures, or vision changes.

Will I feel claustrophobic during a brain MRI scan?

We use a wide-bore MRI scanner designed for comfort. Our team will support you throughout your scan.
