Yes, warts are contagious.

They are caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV).

The virus spreads through:

• Direct skin-to-skin contact (touching someone else’s wart).
• Indirect contact (sharing towels, razors, shoes, or touching surfaces where the virus is present).
• Self-spread (touching or scratching a wart and then another area of your own body).

The virus usually enters through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin. Not everyone who comes into contact with HPV will develop warts - it  depends on factors like immune system strength and skin condition.

Skin tags (medical name: acrochordons) form when extra skin and connective tissue grow in areas where the skin folds or rubs. They’re harmless, non-cancerous, and very common.

Main Causes / Risk Factors

• Friction: Skin rubbing against skin or clothing (common in the neck, armpits, groin, under breasts).
• Genetics: Some people are more likely to develop them if family members have them.
• Hormones: Pregnancy and hormonal changes can trigger new skin tags.
• Metabolic conditions: More common in people with obesity, insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes.
• Age: They tend to appear more after age 40.

Unlike warts, skin tags are not caused by a virus and are not contagious.
