What is General Surgery?

The term general surgery covers the treatment and assessment of a wide range of conditions related to the organs and predominantly focuses on the abdomen. Our consultant surgeons are highly experienced medical professionals, many of whom have special interests in specific surgery which means you will have the peace of mind that the consultant you see is an expert in their field. Consultations are available in Manchester, Liverpool and Newton-le-Willows and surgery is performed at our private diagnostic and surgical centre in Newton-le-Willows

After a consultation and initial tests to diagnose the issue, one of the general surgeons will carry out an operation to treat or further examine a condition if this is the option decided by the consultant and patient.

We have introduced online booking to make things easier for you.

Conditions our expert surgeons & consultants diagnose and treat:

Diseases of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas

Common conditions in these areas of the body include cancer, gallstones and pancreatitis. Diseases of the liver include liver disease, cirrhosis and liver failure – all of which are serious conditions, often caused by excessive alcohol consumption.

Hernias

Hernias commonly occur in the abdomen and groin when fatty tissue, part of the stomach or part of the bowel pushes through the muscle wall, causing a painful swelling. There is a wide range of hernias which can be treated successfully through surgery.

Haemorrhoids

Also known as piles, haemorrhoids can usually be treated by applying cream, changing to a fibre-rich diet or by losing weight. In some cases, haemorrhoids need to be treated with surgery where the haemorrhoids are cut out.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

IBS is often triggered by diet or by stress and can cause bloating, painful stomach cramps and fluctuations between diarrhoea and constipation. It can often be controlled by changes to diet but in some cases, a colorectal surgeon will advise further investigations to rule out more serious conditions.

Weight loss treatment

Pall Mall Medical is now able to offer the Elipse Weight Loss Balloon. The only gastric balloon in the world that offers a safe and doctor approved weight loss programme without the need for surgery or endoscopy for insertion.

The programme involves a gastric balloon that can simply be swallowed in a short appointment in the clinic, under the care of our Consultant Gastroenterologist. The balloon then inflates and remains in your stomach for 4 months. Taking up space to help you feel more full, reducing your hunger and therefore consume less food.

Following approximately 4 months, the balloon will deflate by itself and pass naturally without any need to return to the clinic for surgical/endoscopic removal. For more information about the cutting-edge treatment, see our page here for Allurion Weight Loss Balloon.

We have experience of delivering 5 star services to over 10,000 patients every year.

This is why our patients rate us Excellent on Trustpilot.
