Book your appointment

At Pall Mall Medical, you can book a private MRI scan without any NHS referral needed. We can organise rapid access, same or next day appointments for a single area or multiple MRI scans with expert diagnosis of any injury, condition or just for peace of mind. Prices start from £400 using at our state-of-the-art, purpose-built Hospital in the North West with easy access between Liverpool and Manchester and from the M6 for the North West and beyond.

Why wait for an appointment?

Many people choose private MRI imaging rather than receiving a scan through the NHS. This helps to avoid long waiting times and means you can get answers to your medical concerns sooner rather than later.

►  I have a referral form or letter:
If you already have an imaging referral form or letter, we can book your MRI scan appointment right away.

►  I don't have a referral form or letter:
We offer MRI scans on a self-referral basis too, meaning you don’t need to get a referral from your NHS GP. We offer a free of charge consultation with our own private GP who will obtain the clinical details the radiographer requires before performing the scan.

Choose Pall Mall Medical for your MRI scan

We can arrange your scan the very same day or next day – saving you the time and stress of waiting for an appointment elsewhere. We have static MRI scanners onsite which means they are available 6 days a week with no waiting lists whatsoever.

We have experience of working with both individuals and companies including elite sports clubs from the Premier League, Football League and Rugby Super League; with our dedicated scanning facility in Newton-Le-Willows that is available 6 days/week and using the best cutting-edge equipment.

Our scan reports are turned around very quickly, (within 3-5 working days) and when completed we’ll send the report to a doctor of your choice; if your MRI report returns with any abnormalities, we also offer self-referral bookings to our 150 specialist consultants to discuss your results if needed. We also offer a Fast Track reporting service if you need results turned around very quickly (as quick as 24-48 hours*).

I’m a Doctor / Consultant / Physiotherapist – how do I refer patients for scans?

We have a very simple one-page referral template (available here) which you can download and return to us via email (gp@pallmallmedical.co.uk) or fax.  Alternately, you can send us your own imaging referral form or clinic letter.

Once we have all the referral information, we will contact the patient directly to book their scan. When the results are available, we will send you a copy of the report. We can also send images to you via IEP or make these available to the patient on a CD.

FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT MRI SCANNING

What is an MRI scan?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners are used to generate detailed images of tissue and bones within the body. This is done using magnetic and radio waves, meaning that there is no exposure to radiation like in other types of radiological scan.  An MRI scan can look at many different areas, from larger organs like the brain to blood vessels and muscles. Each MRI scan usually takes between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the number of areas of the body being examined.

An MRI scanner will be a large tube or tunnel you lie inside. It doesn’t hurt, and in most cases, you don’t have to be sedated for the scan. To achieve the best images, you will be asked to remain as still as possible.

What can an MRI scan be used for?

MRI scans can generate multi-dimensional images at any angle from the body making them an essential diagnostic tool. Some of the common uses for this type of scanner include:

  • Examining the spinal cord to identify back problems and trapped nerves
  • Examining the knee’s, hip or shoulders to identify bone & joint problems
  • Detecting the presence of tumours in the brain and other parts of the body
  • Looking at the changes in the brain associated with strokes and dementia
  • Examining muscles and abnormal growths to check for ligament damage or muscle damage
  • Used for imaging the breast (alternative to mammograms)
  • Heart abnormalities
  • Soft tissue problems
  • Brain & Body Screening (an alternative to a health screen)
  • Brain and body MRI scans

Which parts of the body can an MRI scan be used for?

  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Cranial nerves
  • Neck
  • Head & Brain
  • Carotid Arteries
  • Transient ischaemic attack
  • Aneurysm
  • Chest
  • Breasts
  • Liver
  • Pancreas
  • Kidney
  • Gall Bladder
  • Musculoskeletal conditions (MSK) – problems with muscles, bones and joints
  • Elbow and Shoulder Joints
  • Hip Joints
  • Knee Joints
  • Bowel
  • Pelvis
  • Vessels

Advanced Brain & Body MRI Scan Package

Many people opt for our advanced brain and body MRI scan as it provides a good overview of your health. Our Medical Director and lead Consultant Radiologist have chosen the 4 key areas of your brain/body to include within this scan. A Brain & Body MRI scan will generate images of your spinal cord, brain, abdomen, pelvis, and arteries all in one session, detecting the presence of potential issues or tissue damage and the diagnosis of any particular symptoms or conditions.

If you would like to extend your scan to include additional areas, this will be an additional cost. To find out exactly what is and is not included in this scan, please visit: https://www.pallmallmedical.co.uk/mri-full-body-terms-and-conditions

Paediatric MRI Scanning Available

Pall Mall Medical are able to scan children under the age of 16. As there is no radiation, there is no risk to the child. Younger children may struggle to lie still for the duration of the scan. Parents or guardians may accompany the children into the scanning area if this will help the child remain calm and still. Moving during the scan may affect the quality of the images, which may result in the requirement for a repeat scan or the radiologist being unable to fully report on the images.

Worried about Claustrophobia or lying still for long periods of time?

Pall Mall Medical’s MRI scanner is not a large-bore scanner, though our Radiographers are extremely experienced in these situations to help you remain calm & relaxed during the scan. There is a button right next to you that you can press at any time if you are feeling uncomfortable. Sedation can also be given when required – you should request this in advance.
