Eyelid/Eyebag surgery FAQ's

What happens in my initial consultation?

At your initial meeting with your surgeon, you will discuss what you would like to achieve in terms of results. Your surgeon will examine you and reassure you regarding any questions you may have. You'll also meet with your patient co-ordinator, who will be available for any support or advice you may need throughout your journey. We are here for you every step of the way.

Why might you choose to have eyelid/eyebag surgery?

It is natural for skin to droop with the ageing process, however, it is often most noticeably visible around the eye area. It can make us look older, tired and even sad! Sun damage, stress, sleep patterns, smoking, weakening muscles and other factors may contribute to the appearance of this area.

The blepharoplasty procedure is a fairly simple surgery to correct this and restore a more youthful appearance. This is done by a Plastic Surgeon or Facial Cosmetic Surgeon removing the excess skin/ fat/muscle around the eye area – typically the upper/lower eyelids and eye bags.

What happens during the procedure?

The Blepharoplasty procedure involves your surgeon making very small incisions around the eyes to trim the excess skin. The incisions are made in the natural lines/creases that already exist meaning that scarring is minimal and rarely noticeable.

A lower lid Blepharoplasty will also elevated and re-drape the area under the eyes, often combined with a cheek lift to provide the desired look.

The procedure is either performed under local or general anaesthesia, typically as a day case with the procedure lasting approximately 1-2 hours in theatre.

How can Pall Mall help?

The procedure is only available privately. In extremely rare circumstances, the NHS will subsidise a blepharoplasty – but only if there are severe vision problems.

At Pall Mall, we have expert surgeons who have performed 1000’s blepharoplasty procedures in their career. All patients have their initial consultation with the surgeon, who can spend the time to fully understand the desired outcome of each person.
