What Is Gender Affirming Breast Augmentation (MTF Top) Surgery?

Gender-affirming breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to help individuals achieve a chest appearance that aligns with their gender identity. The surgery typically involves placing breast implants to create a fuller, more feminine contour, and may also include revision procedures to refine previous results. For many people, it is a transformative step that can significantly reduce gender dysphoria and enhance overall wellbeing.

At Pall Mall, we recognise the deeply personal nature of gender-affirming surgery and the meaningful impact it can have on your confidence and quality of life. Our team provides compassionate, personalised support at every stage of your journey. All procedures take place at our state-of-the-art private hospital in Newton-le-Willows, where you’ll be cared for by specialists with extensive experience in gender-affirming healthcare.

The most common approach to gender-affirming breast augmentation uses silicone or saline implants placed beneath the chest muscle to enhance breast size, shape, and projection. Your surgeon will work closely with you to tailor the procedure to your goals, including:

  • Implant size and shape – selected to achieve your desired look while complementing your body proportions

  • Implant placement – either under or over the pectoral muscle, depending on your existing chest tissue

  • Incision location – typically within the breast crease or around the areola to help minimise visible scarring

Your Top Surgery procedure:

Compression Bra & Stockings: You will be fitted with a compression bra post-op to help recovery - we recommend wearing this for 6 weeks.
Results: You will see the final results of your surgery within 6 to 12 months.
Exercise: You will need to refrain from exercise for 6-8 weeks to help your body recover.
Hospital Stay: You’ll be able to go home the same day as your surgery.
Time Off Work: We advise you to take 1-2 weeks off work following your surgery.
Sleep: Sleeping slightly upright on your back for 6 weeks will limit your arm movements during recovery. A v-shaped pillow can help to keep you comfy.
