Dr. Shaila Sukthankar

Dr. Shaila Sukthankar is a consultant paediatrician with a focus on outpatient elective consultations for children. She assesses and manages patients from one month to 16 years of age.

Dr. Sukthankar qualified as a paediatrician from premier teaching institutions in Mumbai, India, and undertook further specialist postgraduate training in paediatrics and paediatric nephrology in the UK. Outside clinical practice, she has a keen interest in postgraduate education and research, has previously led on several studies on nephrotic syndrome, RSV bronchiolitis, and iron deficiency anaemia.

She has been Associate Medical Director for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and also held positions as Regional Adviser for Paediatrics and MRCPCH Examiner for e RCPCH.

Her expertise includes assessment of acutely unwell children, and outpatient elective consultations for all childhood health conditions including abdominal pain, asthma, constipation, day/ night wetting, eczema, fevers, fits and faints, general aches/ pains, growth concerns, headaches, hypermobility, infant feeding difficulties, nephrotic syndrome, recurrent cough, recurrent diarrhoea, recurrent infections, rickets, and urinary problems.

Dr Sukthankar has over 30 years of experience of working with children and families both abroad and in the UK (Consultant since 2003) and is currently working at the Royal Manchester Children's hospital. She will see patients mainly at the Manchester Pall Mall clinic.

She is able to speak in English, Hindi and Marathi, and can understand other India languages including Gujrati and Punjabi. Outside of work , she enjoys reading, travelling, and music.
