The government is proposing that high-risk cosmetic and wellbeing procedures, including cosmetic surgery and certain injectable and laser treatments, should only be carried out by specified, qualified healthcare professionals.
Sophie Simons, Marketing Director at Pall Mall, said:
“We welcome the government’s proposals to strengthen regulation of high-risk cosmetic procedures in England.
“Patient safety should always come before commercial interests. Cosmetic surgery can have a significant impact on people’s lives, but it also carries clinical risks that should never be underestimated. In many cases, patients seek treatments to address underlying medical conditions or symptoms that significantly affect their quality of life.
“Patients deserve to know that the person performing their treatment has the appropriate qualifications, specialist training and experience, and that suitable clinical governance, informed consent and aftercare arrangements are in place.
“We believe stronger, proportionate regulation is an important step towards protecting patients and raising standards across the sector. However, qualifications alone are not enough. Training, experience, the treatment environment and the ability to recognise and manage complications are equally important.
“At Pall Mall Cosmetics and Kat & Co, we believe patients should feel empowered to ask questions, understand the risks and make informed decisions without pressure.
“Ultimately, this isn’t about restricting patient choice. It’s about ensuring that when someone chooses a procedure, they can do so with confidence in the standards of care they receive.”
