Who should book

Men aged 45 and over

Risk increases significantly with age. Regular screening from 45 gives you a baseline and early warning if something changes.

Family history of prostate cancer

Having a father or brother diagnosed with prostate cancer more than doubles your risk. Earlier screening is strongly recommended.

Urinary symptoms

Needing to urinate urgently or frequently, a weak flow, or getting up in the night are all worth investigating.

Black African or Caribbean heritage

Men of Black African or Caribbean heritage are at significantly higher risk and are advised to consider screening from age 45.

Wanting peace of mind

No symptoms but want to know where you stand? A PSA test gives you a clear baseline — and reassurance if everything looks normal.

Referred or concerned after a GP visit

If your GP has flagged a concern or you're waiting too long on the NHS, we can see you quickly with no referral needed.

Delivering 5 star services to patients every year

This is why our patients rate us Excellent on Trustpilot.

Your Prostate Health Questions Answered

What is a PSA test and what does it show?
A PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test is a simple blood test that measures a protein produced by the prostate gland. Elevated PSA levels can indicate prostate cancer, but also benign conditions like an enlarged prostate or prostatitis. A specialist will interpret your result in context.
Do I need a GP referral to book?

No. You can self-refer directly to Pall Mall Medical without a GP letter. This means faster access - often same week - and full confidentiality.

How quickly will I get my results?

PSA blood test results are typically returned within 24–48 hours. Your consultant will explain what they mean and recommend any next steps during a follow-up discussion.

Is a high PSA result always cancer?

No. A raised PSA can have several causes - including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, or even recent physical activity. That's why consultant interpretation is essential, not just the number alone.

What age should men start PSA testing?

Most guidelines suggest screening from age 50. However, men with a family history of prostate cancer or of Black African/Caribbean heritage are advised to consider testing from age 45, as their risk is higher.

What happens if my PSA is elevated?
Your Pall Mall consultant will walk you through the result and, if needed, recommend further investigations such as an MRI scan or biopsy. You won't be left without a clear plan.
