"My brain never switches off."

As a 49 year old woman, Rita Simons may not be the first type of person you think of when picturing somebody with ADHD. Women especially are chronically underdiagnosed.

"For years I've been told I have ADHD, but being told and having a formal diagnosis are two very different things. You need the proper diagnosis before you can access medication and treatment.

After a long wait on the NHS, I decided I had to find another route. I was incredibly lucky to have my ADHD assessment at @pallmallmedical Manchester, where everything...from my assessment to my ECG and treatment plan...happened under one roof. A week later, I was formally diagnosed with combined ADHD and prescribed medication."

"It's like having 48 tabs open and no idea where the noise is coming from."

Rita has always been open about her mental health, and she explained to her followers what led her to finally pursue an official diagnosis:

"As I've got older, the symptoms have got much louder. Every few months I seem to burn myself out, promise myself I'm going to slow down... then immediately forget that promise and start seventeen new things. My brain never switches off."
