Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck before and afters

Who is suitable for a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck?
At Pall Mall, we say that the Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck is ideal for patients who are not candidates for standard abdominoplasty. More specifically, the Fleur-de-Lis is for patients who have severe or significant skin laxity, most commonly from major weight loss or weight loss surgery. If you are planning on loosing lots of weight in the future or if you have minimal skin laxity, the Fleur-de-Lis is not for you and you may consider a different tummy tuck procedure.
Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck scars and incision pattern explained
In French, Fleur-de-Lis translates to `flower of the lily`, which will best describe the shape of your scars after the procedure.
During the procedure, a horizontal incision is made across the lower abdomen (like a standard tummy tuck) and a vertical incision is made down the middle of your central abdomen. It is worth considering that, although your surgeon will make his best efforts to keep scarring to a minimum, scarring will still be lightly visible after your procedure. If this is a worry to you, please speak to your surgeon during your surgical consultation, and he will address any questions you may have.

What happens during a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck?
Your free consultation
Pre-surgery, you will attend a free, no-obligation consultation at one of our four CQC registered clinics.
Your pre-op assessment
Next, you will be invited to a pre-operative assessment where we will take bloods and a urine sample to make sure you are nice and healthy for the surgery.
Your surgery, explained in full
During your Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck, your surgeon will reshape and contour the abdomen by removing excess skin vertically and horizontally. Explained in more detail:
Anaesthetic - First things first: in the UK, the Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic, so you’ll be asleep for the operation.
Horizontal and vertical incisions - Next, your surgeon will make two incisions: one horizontally across the lower abdomen, and one vertically running straight up the middle. Read more about scarring in our results vs scarring section.
Excess skin removal - Afterwards, the excess skin is carefully removed, from the lower abdomen and middle abdomen. This is one of the reasons why a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck is superior to a standard tummy tuck: this level of tightening can only be achieved by removing loose skin from both sections.
Muscle repair - If the abdominal muscles have separated (a condition known as diastasis recti), the surgeon may tighten and repair them. This step will be discussed at your surgeon consultation.
Belly button re-positioning - Next, your surgeon will reattach your belly button so it sits naturally on your new, snatched abdomen.
Closing the incisions - Your horizontal and vertical incisions will now be closed up in a way that will lead to minimal scarring and swelling.
Dressings and compression garment
At this stage, dressings will be applied and you’ll be fitted with compression garment. This will help aid recovery and will shape your final result. Always remember to listen to your surgeon’s advice as to when you can remove your dressings and compression garment.
After surgery
Once you’ve had your surgery, which will take around 3 hours, you will stay overnight in one of our private en-suite rooms at our CQC registered hospital in Newton-le-Willows.

Results & scarring after a Fleur-de-Lis
After the procedure, you will have minimal scarring across your lower and central abdomen which will fade considerably after 12-18 months. If the scarring is bothersome to you, you can either talk to your surgeon or look at alternative body contouring options.
The results of the Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck (which will be present within weeks of having the surgery, then at their prime 3-6 months after):
- Your abdomen will be flatter and more contoured with little to no loose skin
- Your skin folds and overhang will be reduced
- Your clothes will fit better
- You will be able to exercise in comfort
- You will be able to walk without rubbing and chafing
- You will feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin
- You can enjoy long-lasting results, paired with a healthy diet and exercise

Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty FAQs
What is a post-bariatric tummy tuck?
A post-bariatric tummy tuck is another name for a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck, and this is because it is often performed after bariatric weight loss surgery.
What will my Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck scar look like?
The name `Fleur-de-Lis` is French for `flower of the lily`. This best describes what your scar will look like. It’s important to note that your scarring will be minimal, and will look it’s best 12-18 months after surgery.
Can the Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck procedure be used to treat diastasis recti repair after weight loss?
The simple answer is: yes! If needed, your surgeon will tighten and repair your muscles. Diastasis recti is common after considerable weight loss and pregnancy, and can be easily fixed during a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck.
When is a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck recommended?
A Fleur-de-Lis surgery is generally recommended to a patient who has significant skin laxity, but there are other factors as well.
Will I get a lot of swelling after Fleur-de-Lis surgery?
As with all cosmetic surgery, you will get swelling after a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck. However, a compression garment is fitted during surgery, which will help to minimise swelling and optimise results. Swelling is likely to go down a couple of weeks after surgery.
What is the Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck recovery like?
Recovery after a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck is not the same for everyone. Generally, patients will stay overnight in one of our CQC registered hospitals straight after surgery. Patients will begin to feel more like themselves a couple of weeks post-op, and they’ll begin to notice real results 3-6 months after surgery.
What’s the difference between a full and extended Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck?
A full Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck treats the lower and central abdomen, whereas an extended Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck also treats the sides of the body.
