Proactive Health Screening: Why Prevention is the Ultimate Investment in Your Health

You don't always need to feel unwell to have questions about your health. A private health screen can give you a clearer picture of your current health, highlight potential risk factors and help you decide whether any further checks are needed.

At Pall Mall Medical, our private health screens provide you with clear, actionable insights into your body.

What is Proactive Health Screening?

Proactive health screening provides an opportunity to review your overall health, even if you don't currently have any symptoms. Depending on the assessment you choose, this may include a consultation with a GP, physical checks and blood tests to assess areas such as cardiovascular health, blood sugar, cholesterol, organ function and other key health markers.

Overall & Blood Health

Detecting anemia, active infections, and underlying inflammatory markers through full blood counts.

Metabolic & Organ Function

Evaluating liver and kidney function, as well as blood glucose levels to spot early signs of pre-diabetes or metabolic dysfunction.

Cardiovascular Health

Assessing cardiovascular risk using measures such as cholesterol, blood pressure.

Hormones & Energy

Monitoring thyroid profiles and key vitamin levels (Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Folate) to identify hidden causes of chronic fatigue, brain fog, or low energy.

Targeted Cancer Screening

Depending on the package and your individual circumstances, certain tests such as PSA or CA125 may be included to provide additional information about specific health risks.

The Power of Early Detection

Many of the most serious long-term health conditions, including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and some early-stage cancers, develop over months or years without obvious symptoms.

Taking a proactive approach to your health can help identify potential symptoms early, giving you the chance to make changes before they become more serious.

What Happens During a Health Screen at Pall Mall Medical?

When you choose a health assessment at Pall Mall Medical, you receive discreet, consultant-led care tailored to your medical history, age, and individual health goals.

Step 1: Health & Lifestyle Questionnaire

After checking in at reception, you will complete a detailed lifestyle questionnaire covering dietary habits, activity levels, alcohol consumption, smoking status, and family medical history. This helps our clinicians calculate potential predispositions.

Step 2: Comprehensive GP Consultation & Physical Examination

You will meet face-to-face with an experienced private GP for a confidential consultation and physical health check, including blood pressure monitoring, body measurements, and organ checks.

Step 3: Advanced Diagnostics

Depending on your chosen screening package, from our entry-level health checks starting from £295 to our comprehensive Ultimate Health Screen, our medical team conducts advanced blood profiles checking up to 58 distinct biomarkers, alongside diagnostic ECGs.

Step 4: Personalised Report & Follow-Up Consultation

Once your results are fully analysed, you receive a detailed, personalised medical report outlining our findings. You will then attend a dedicated follow-up appointment (in person or via a remote call) with a GP to review your results, answer questions, and build a long-term personal health plan.

What Happens After Your Health Screen?

Based on your test results, we will create a tailored health plan to resolve any identified issues. We may recommend regular health checks to monitor your progress and ensure your preventative care remains effective, making adjustments whenever necessary.

FAQs

How is a health screen different from a normal GP appointment?

A GP appointment is usually triggered by a specific symptom or concern. A health screen is a proactive, comprehensive, baseline check across your major body systems, blood health, organ function, cardiovascular risk, hormones and cancer markers, even if you feel completely well. It can help identify certain risk factors or health abnormalities before symptoms become apparent.

Do I need a GP referral to book a health screen?

No. Pall Mall Medical's health screens are available with no GP referral required, and same-week appointments are typically available.

What's actually included in a health screen?

It depends on the package, but most screens include a detailed lifestyle questionnaire, a face-to-face consultation and physical examination with a private GP, laboratory blood testing (checking anywhere from a handful of key markers up to 58 biomarkers on the Ultimate Health Screen), and a follow-up appointment to talk through your results and build a health plan.

How long does the whole process take?

You'll typically have your initial consultation and blood draw in one visit. Once your results are analysed, you'll be booked in for a separate follow-up appointment. This can be either in person or remotely, to go through your personalised report with a GP.

Will my results be shared with an NHS GP?

No, not without your explicit consent. Everything is handled in strict confidence by Pall Mall Medical's own medical professionals.

What happens if a health screen finds something concerning?

Your GP will talk you through the findings at your follow-up consultation and help build a tailored plan - this might mean lifestyle changes, further monitoring, referral for specialist investigation, or starting treatment early. The goal of catching things early is that they're usually far more manageable at this stage.

Is a health screen worth it if I feel fine?

Many serious conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, early-stage cancers, develop silently with no obvious symptoms for months or years. That's exactly why proactive screening exists: to catch these shifts while they're still easily reversible or manageable, rather than waiting until symptoms force the issue.

How often should I get a health screen?

This varies by age, family history and individual risk factors, which is part of what your GP will help assess. Many people choose to screen annually as part of an ongoing health plan, though your clinician may recommend a different frequency based on your results.

Where can I get a health screen?

Pall Mall Medical offers private health screening across its North West clinics — you can find your nearest location and book a consultation whenever you're ready.
