A revision breast augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery that involves removing, replacing, or correcting your breast implants. Usually, patients have revision breast augmentation surgery to improve the appearance of their bust, but the surgery is also done to address medical complications caused by breast implants, such as rippling, rupture, or leakage. When is breast implant revision suitable?

If you’re fully healed from your breast augmentation surgery and your breasts have had time to `drop and fluff`, plus you are now allowed to take your compression bra off and your freshly implanted breasts have settled in to their new natural position – then it’s time to consider whether you’re truly happy with your new breasts.

You might look at your breasts in the mirror and notice that the size, shape, or projection of them is not how you’d planned. Perhaps your implants have caused you some pain, or one of them has flipped over, or they’ve hit another complication. It’s important to note that before 6 weeks, your breasts will still be swollen from surgery, and their shape, size, and projection will not be accurately represented. Your revision surgery recovery: What to expect

Recovery after breast revision surgery can depend on the complexity of your procedure; generally, it takes longer to heal after a revision and will be slightly more uncomfortable. You will want to book a chunk of time off work while you recover initially, too. Here’s what to expect, week-on-week:

Immediately after breast implant revision surgery

Swelling, bruising, and tightness are to be expected. No heavy lifting or unnecessary movement should be done (leave this to your partner/sister/mum!)

The first week after breast revision augmentation

Carry on resting, sleep on your back, and take any medication you’ve been given. Light activities can be done around this period, but still no lifting. You will feel tired.

Weeks 2-3 after breast revision surgery

You’ll start to feel more like yourself now. Swelling will reduce, and you’ll be able to return to work (if you work at a desk/it isn’t a super physical job).

Weeks 4-6 after revision surgery

You can go back to the gym and do light exercise now - with approval from your surgeon. Your implants will likely be settled and will start to `drop and fluff`.

3-6 months after revision surgery
