Why women opt for implant replacement surgery

There are several reasons why women opt for implant replacement surgery – and if you are considering it too, then you’re not alone! Here are the 3 main reasons why women and those who identify opt for a revision breast augmentation:

✓Dissatisfaction with their new breast implants – perhaps the size, shape, or projection does not reflect what they discussed with their surgeon.

✓Implant complications – in some cases, breast implants can drop, flip, burst, or cause pain and discomfort.

✓Implant replacement – most women choose to change their old implants, typically every 10-15 years

Which problems can a revision breast augmentation fix?

If you think that your breasts need revision surgery, then your first port of call is to work with your surgeon to address the problems you are facing. It doesn’t matter whether our surgeons did your initial BA or not; we’re still more than qualified (and happy!) to do your revision surgery. Here are some of the common implant problems that we can easily fix:
Scarring
Asymmetry
Wrong implant size
Wrong implant shape
Wrong projection (how far your breasts stick out)
Damaged or ruptured implants
Rippling edges
Capsular contracture (hardening of implants)

Breast implant revision surgery: Procedure options

Your chosen surgeon will help you to decide on your next procedure. Breast implant revision surgery is highly tailored, so your surgery will depend on your current implants, the problems you are facing, and your desired outcomes. Here are the types of breast implant revision surgery that we perform at Pall Mall:

Implant replacement surgery

Change the size or shape, or replace old, damaged, or ruptured implants.

Implant removal surgery

Remove old or damaged implants, and have your natural breasts reshaped or sometimes, uplifted.

Capsular contracture correction

Change the damaged implant for a fresh implant, and have the implant pocket repositioned.

Implant repositioning

Have the old implant pocket repositioned, and internal sutures done for support and contour.

Breast uplift with implant revision

Work on the sagging of your breasts by opting for a breast uplift (mastopexy).

What our patients say: positive breast implant revision stories:

“I have now had my second uplift, but this time my surgeon removed tissue from my own breasts and tightened the pockets extra tight. So far, I am over the moon with my results; I have volume and love the slight reduction he has done” Jade via Facebook
“Last year, I met Mr Prasad for the first time and explained my concerns. He made me feel so comfortable, and I felt like I was in good hands knowing that he understood what I wanted out of my operation. After my op, at 9 weeks, I developed a keloid scar. Mr Prasad has put me forward for a scar revision. Again, a credit to the perfection Mr Prasad works to" Liv via Facebook
“So, I am one year post-op uplift revision and implants (245cc). I dreamt of having a body like this for years, and thanks to Mr Krishnan I finally feel amazing about myself! I honestly couldn’t be happier with my whole experience with Pall Mall." Louise via Facebook

Your revision surgery recovery: What to expect

Recovery after breast revision surgery can depend on the complexity of your procedure; generally, it takes longer to heal after a revision and will be slightly more uncomfortable. You will want to book a chunk of time off work while you recover initially, too. Here’s what to expect, week-on-week:

Immediately after breast implant revision surgery

Swelling, bruising, and tightness are to be expected. No heavy lifting or unnecessary movement should be done (leave this to your partner/sister/mum!)

The first week after breast revision augmentation

Carry on resting, sleep on your back, and take any medication you’ve been given. Light activities can be done around this period, but still no lifting. You will feel tired.

Weeks 2-3 after breast revision surgery

You’ll start to feel more like yourself now. Swelling will reduce, and you’ll be able to return to work (if you work at a desk/it isn’t a super physical job).

Weeks 4-6 after revision surgery

You can go back to the gym and do light exercise now - with approval from your surgeon. Your implants will likely be settled and will start to `drop and fluff`.

3-6 months after revision surgery

Here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for – your final results will show here. Remember to get in touch with your patient advisor or book another free consultation with your surgeon if you are not happy or have experienced a problem with your implants.

Why would I need breast implant revision surgery?

Breast enlargements, reductions, and uplifts are all major surgeries. Although we do everything in our power to ensure your surgery goes smoothly and that you love your results, things do happen.
