What concerns can a neck lift treat?
Sometimes, the sagging appearance of our neck can make us look older than we are, and stubborn excess fat around the chin can make us look weighty. A neck lift tackles both of these concerns and more.
If you want these concerns gone in a quick, affordable, and trustworthy procedure – then a neck lift could be for you. To learn more, book your free consultation with our expert surgeons today.
Have you got:
- Loose or drooping neck skin?
- A “turkey neck” appearance?
- Excess fat under the chin?
- Lack of a jawline?
- Neck wrinkles?

How does neck lift surgery work?
Neck lift surgery works by removing sagging skin and excess fat from the neck and jawline, along with tightening the neck muscles. Together, these techniques create a smoother, firmer, and more youthful appearance. During the procedure, you will be made comfortable and put under general anaesthetic. When you wake up, you’ll look younger, fresher, and neatly tucked under the chin.

Types of neck lift surgery explained
There are different types of neck lift surgery; the options available to you depend on how much loose skin you’ve got, what your fatty deposits are like, and how much tightening is needed around your neck muscles. A traditional neck lift typically combines a platysmaplasty and a cervicoplasty. Here are the main types of neck surgery performed at Pall Mall Cosmetics:
Platysmaplasty
A platysmaplasty targets the neck muscles, specifically the platysma muscle, which can weaken and separate with age. Tightening this muscle can improve jawline definition and restore a younger-looking appearance. Usually paired with a cervicoplasty.
Cervicoplasty
A cervicoplasty focuses on removing excess, sagging skin from the neck area. This procedure is ideal for patients with loose skin or a “turkey neck” appearance caused by ageing or weight loss. Usually paired with a platysmaplasty.
Mini neck lift
A mini neck lift is similar to a traditional one, but it suits patients with mild skin laxity. During a mini neck lift, just one incision is used, and the downtime is less. Recovery is quicker.
Lipo neck lift
It is possible to achieve neck lift results by having liposuction in the area. This is best suited for patients with good skin elasticity and mainly extra fat around the chin.

Neck lift surgery vs facelift: What’s the difference?
While you’d think the neck lift targets the neck and a facelift targets the face, the areas do overlap. If you’re indecisive about choosing a neck lift or facelift, we’d always recommend speaking to a surgeon who specialises in the face to make sure you’ve picked the correct procedure.
- A neck lift removes excess skin and fatty deposits from the neck, as well as tightens the neck muscles
- A facelift focuses on removing fat and tightening skin around the bottom of the face, including the jowls
Both procedures pull and tighten the skin around the jawline, creating a more contoured and youthful appearance.
Who is a good candidate for a neck lift?
If the skin around your neck is loose and sagging (a `turkey neck`) or you have excess fat beneath your chin (a "double chin"), then you might be thinking about neck lift surgery. But will you be accepted to have surgery?
Here is what we look for:
✓No smoking before surgery
✓A healthy BMI
✓Medical conditions under control
✓Realistic expectation of surgery
If your weight is fluctuating, you may be asked to postpone surgery. Please know that there are non-surgical alternatives available. Kindly talk to our patient advisors if you would like more information on these.

Understanding neck lift scars and healing
When you have neck lift surgery, your surgeon will do their best to hide the incisions within the natural contours of the body, including behind the ears and under the chin. This means that even as they are healing, your scars will be barely noticeable. Straight after surgery, your scars will appear pink and raised, but as time goes on, they will present as pale and flat.
There is a small chance that you will have what is called a keloid scar – these are raised and red and have more scar tissue. Sometimes a revision surgery is needed to correct the keloid scar. If you are worried about incisions and scarring, you can contact our friendly patient advisors who will put your mind at ease and answer any questions you may have.
Risks and complications of neck lift surgery
As with all cosmetic procedures, there are risks and complications associated with the procedure. With a neck lift, risks are minimal and unlikely, but we must share them with you.
- Changes in sensation around the neck area
- Tightness, which may not last
- Infection
- Scarring (including keloids - more information in the paragraph above)
- Allergic reactions to the anaesthetic used
