Breast Reduction before and after

Rhian Sudgen's Breast Reduction with Mr Hussain
Rhian Sugden, 38, chose Pall Mall Cosmetics for a breast reduction and uplift after struggling with discomfort and lifestyle limitations caused by her breast size.
Back pain, difficulty exercising, and clothing restrictions led her to consultant surgeon Mr Hussain, who noted her nipples sat 11cm too low. The surgery reduced her from a 32HH to a 32E with a lift. “Mr Hussain made me feel completely safe – he’s a surgical genius and so kind,” she said.
Six weeks later, Rhian is swimming faster, pain-free, and enjoying better posture. “I feel lighter, comfier, and free. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.”

What to expect from Breast Reduction surgery with Pall Mall
From your initial consultation to your recovery, our team of experts will be by your side at every step of your breast reduction journey. We’ll ensure you're fully supported and informed, from pre-op preparations through to post-op care, and will answer any questions you have.
FREE no-obligation consultations
At your first consultation, you'll see your chosen surgeon in person. You will have the opportunity to talk about your goals for this surgery, and your surgeon will answer any questions you have.
Your surgeon will also examine you at this time and will discuss the various options for your surgery to find an approach that will meet your goals.
If you still have questions at that point or are worried about any aspect of the procedure, you can book a follow-up consultation to put your mind at ease.
Book your surgery date
From here, you'll meet your dedicated patient co-ordinator, who will be with you throughout your journey with us, helping to make your surgical procedure go as smoothly as possible.
They will help you get a better understanding of what’s involved with your procedure and will ensure all of the necessary logistical details are taken care of, including:
giving you sense of what to expect, such as timings for the surgery itself, recovery time and aftercare
planning appointments, such as pre- and post-operative meetings
discussing pricing and any finance options available to you
Once this is all sorted, we can then book your procedure for a time that suits you.
Pre-op assessment
As with any procedure, we'll have to check your health to make sure you're well enough to undergo surgery with general anaesthetic.
This will include testing your blood pressure and taking a blood test, before going through any existing medical symptoms in your history. The appointment will also check for MRSA and you may need to undergo a urine test.
One of the primary parts of the pre-assessment will be taking photos of your chest so that we have a medical record before the surgery goes ahead.
Our friendly nurses will explain everything needed for your file, as well as pass on any contact details you'll need for any final checks leading up to your operation - including post-operative care information.
Breast Reduction operation
For your operation, you'll be treated at our privately owned hospital in Newton-le-Willows, conveniently located between Manchester and Liverpool - with plenty of transport links from Manchester and Liverpool and free on-site parking. Unlike other cosmetic surgery providers, we own our hospital facility which means you are in the best care from start to finish and you’ll only ever be with patients who are also having cosmetic procedures
You can expect to receive exceptional treatment that comes with state-of-the-art equipment and a comfortable private room with en-suite facilities for the duration of your stay.
You'll be given your admission time a few days in advance and will meet your surgeon, anaesthetist and ward nurse to ask any questions.
When you come around from the general anaesthetic, you can comfortably recover in your own private room, with any further pain relief or medication provided as and when you need it.
Recovery and aftercare
There is a possibility that depending on the time and complexity of your surgery we ask you to stay overnight so we can monitor you and answer any concerns that you might have post-surgery.
Following your operation, you'll be able to recover at home. You will use a suppression bra to help support and encourage healing over the next few days while you rest. You’ll be able to reach a member of staff 24/7 if you have any concerns.
We will keep in touch and schedule appointments for you to visit the clinic one, two and six weeks after the surgery. This is to make sure the recovery process is going well.
First appointment: One of our registered nurses will check to see how you're healing, change your dressings and remove any non-dissolvable stitches, if they have been used.
Second appointment: We'll assess how your breast tissue is healing and settling, and will make an overall assessment of the process so far. Post-operative photos will be taken for your file and your cosmetic surgeon will be notified about how you're doing.
Third appointment: You'll then be invited back to meet your surgeon so they can see the final results of your breast reduction and make sure you're completely happy with your new look.

Breast Reduction Surgery FAQs
Our expert team is always on hand to help, advise and arrange appointments with our specialist consultants. Get in touch if you have any questions about breast reduction - you can find answers to the most common questions below.
How long will it take for me to recover after Breast Reduction surgery?
Although cosmetic, a Breast Reduction is still major surgery, so you need to give yourself plenty of time to rest and recover.
As such, we’d suggest taking three weeks off work to make sure you heal properly - especially while your wounds heal - but you will be provided with post-operative pain killers and instructions on how to best manage your dressings or stitches. It can take up to six weeks to fully recover from Breast Reduction surgery.
To assure the best chance of healing, you should avoid any heavy physical exertion, bending over, lifting your arms over your head, and any exercise until at least three weeks post-op. You'll also be expected to keep wearing your compression bra until the healing period is over, in order to provide your new shape proper support as they 'settle'. Read our blog post to find out how long after surgery it takes to find out your new breast size.
How long do I have to keep my dressing on after Breast Reduction surgery?
Leave dressings intact until they are removed in the clinic. You will usually have dissolvable sutures in place - these will dissolve in a few months following surgery. It is common to have some blood strike through onto the dressings but if it appears fully soaked or leaking through, please contact your clinic for an early dressing change.
Avoid getting the wound wet until all the dressings are removed. After they have been removed only shower - avoid soaking your wound in the bath for 6-8 weeks post operatively.
What type of anaesthetic is used during Breast Reduction surgery?
For this surgery you will be placed under general anaesthetic and monitored closely throughout the procedure. This is a controlled state of unconsciousness to ensure you don’t feel pain or move while surgery is being carried out.
Can breast reduction be done without surgery?
Non-surgical approaches such as exercise or weight loss can reduce some breast size, but they cannot remove excess breast tissue or reshape the breast the way surgery can. Breast reduction surgery is the most effective long-term solution for significantly reducing breast size.
Will I have visible scars?
Scarring is an expected part of breast reduction, but experienced surgeons place incisions carefully to minimise visibility over time. Scars usually fade gradually as healing progresses.
Is breast reduction permanent?
Yes, breast reduction surgery provides long-lasting results.
The excess breast tissue and skin removed during the procedure do not grow back. While natural factors such as weight changes, pregnancy or ageing can affect breast shape over time, most patients experience a permanent reduction in breast size. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results long term.
Does breast reduction surgery leave scars?
Yes. The breast reduction procedure involves removing tissue and skin while moving the nipple, so scarring tends to be more extensive than augmentation. However, scars do fade over time and are concealed by underwear.
Does breast reduction affect nipple sensation?
In most cases, nipple sensation is preserved, though temporary numbness after surgery is common.
Does breast reduction affect breastfeeding?
Breast reduction can affect the volume of milk produced, however in many cases it is still possible. Your surgeon can discuss future breastfeeding impact in your initial consultation.
